Behind the scenes of any theatrical production, you'll find a hub of activity that only gets busier as the first show draws closer.
When the production is as big and beautiful as "Hairspray," however, seemingly everyone is in constant motion. Busy days turn into long nights, but smiles are still easy to find. When the curtain rises on the show with patron's night on Thursday, April 24, the extraordinarily talented cast will step into the spotlight.
But they'd be the first to tell you that the show doesn't happen without the contributions of dozens of staff, students, and volunteers working feverishly behind the scenes. "Hairspray's" setting in 1960s Baltimore is a critical part of the story, so the show has to look and feel like the '60s. The big hair and colorful costumes have been painstakingly selected and, in many cases, created from scratch.
With such a high energy show, the sets change quickly, so the stage crew has to have their movements timed down to the very second. From a TV station to a high school to the Turnblad house to the streets of Baltimore, every scene needs a set that brings the audience into the story.
Enjoy some behind the scenes photos highlighting the preparation for this show. Woodland Hills invites everyone to check out the amazing work of not only an incredible cast, but a dedicated and passionate crew when Hairspray steps on stage next week.
