Welcome back, Woodland Hills faculty and staff!

Over 470 district employees along with 120-plus drivers through our transportation partners are officially back in session. Tuesday, August 18 marked the district's annual Opening Day gathering, as faculty, staff, and administrators gathered at the high school to put the finishing touches on the start of the school year and to highlight some key initiatives.

Members of the Woodland Hills Marching Band performed a medley of songs to welcome the faculty and staff, while current students and recent graduates performed the Pledge of Allegiance and a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Opening Day allows all district faculty and staff to hear directly from leaders and partners throughout the district, including school board vice president Dr. Cynthia Wallace. Interim Superintendent Ms. Denise L. Sedlacek shared her priorities and goals for the district during her tenure, as well as words of encouragement and support. Dr. Eddie Willson, the district's assistant to the superintendent for curriculum, served as the master of ceremonies during the morning gathering.

This year, Opening Day featured a keynote speaker Ms. Michelle King. An experienced educator who spent years as a middle school social studies teacher, Ms. King is now a self-described "learning instigator," as she explores and shares innovative ways teachers can deepen connections to their students and the material being studied in their classrooms.

The entire Woodland Hills School District is excited to begin the 2026-27 school year with kindergarten orientation on Wednesday and the first day of school on Thursday, August 20. As Ms. Sedlacek shared to close out her presentation, "It's a great day to be a Wolverine!"
